'Eplogue' bags Biffes top honour

The ongoing Sixth Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES) reached a decisive stage with the announcement of awards in various categories on Wednesday.

The NETPAC award for the best film in the Asian Cinema Competition was conferred on the film Eplogue (original title: Ve Berl), produced by Assaf Amir, directed by Amir Manor. The award carried a NETPAC certificate and a cash prize of Rs two lakh (Rs one lakh each for the producer and director).

In the Indian Cinema Competition, the best film award, Suchitra Samman, was won by Ko Yad, an Assamese film directed by Manju Borah and produced by AAAS Productions. Besides a plaque, the award carried a cash prize of Rs four lakh (Rs two lakh each for the producer and director). The Special jury award was bagged by the Marathi film, Astu, directed by Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukhtankar. The movie was produced by Mohan Agashe.

The jury conferred the first best Kannada film in the name of Karnataka Chalana Chitra Academy to the film Munsif directed and produced by Umashankar Swamy. The award carries a plaque and a cash prize of Rs two lakh (Rs one lakh each for the producer and director).

The award for the second best Kannada film was conferred on Tallana, a 2013 movie directed by Sudarshan Narayana and produced by Vasundhara Kulkarni. The special jury award in the category was bagged by Edegarike, a film directed by Sumana Kittur and produced by Syed Aman Bachchan.
