Escoms seek Rs 1.40 hike per unit

Electricity Supply Companies (Escoms) in the state have proposed a hike of Rs 1.40 per unit of power. A proposal in this regard by escoms has been submitted to the Karnataka Energy Regulatory Commission (KERC). Citing severe drought and dried-up reservoirs, escoms have justified the proposal, saying that they need to buy power to ensure uninterrupted supply.

The KERC, after hearing the domestic and commercial consumers and other stakeholders in the Energy department, will announce the revision by the end of March 2017. The new rates will come into effect from April 1, 2017.

Early this year, the KERC had allowed a hike of 30 paise per unit as against the proposed Rs 1.02 per unit by escoms.
