Speaking to Deccan Herald, BBMP Mayor S K Nataraj said the Palike is of the opinion that the original allottees of the EWS quarters could directly appeal to the High Court through the BBMP legal advisors, for speedy justice.
“With the two private parties involved in a legal tussle, it is the allottees who are really suffering. We are planning to ask the allottees to directly approach the Court for justice with the help of BBMP lawyers,” Nataraj said.
On demands made by the allottees asking the BBMP to give them their share of land in place of the long-delayed quarters, the Mayor stated that the demand could not be considered. The EWS quarters, which remains in limbo after the HC gave stay on any construction activity, remains a distant dream for most allottees who have invested their savings in the project. The court gave stay after a petition was filed by Akruthi Builders contesting the tender finalised in favour of Maverick Holdings and Investments by the BBMP.
The 1,540 families, who were allotted the houses, have been demanding justice for nearly seven years after the dilapidated quarters were demolished. The HC had passed an order on September 20, this year, asking the BBMP to expedite the process of constructing new homes for the allottees.
However, with two private parties –– Maverick Holdings and Investments and Akruthi Builders –– involved in a legal tussle over who is the rightful partner in the proposed Public Private Partnership for constructing the quarters, hopes for a quick resolution seem to be fading for the families.
