Restructuring BBMP into five entities and 400 wards would help solve garbage menace and help civic agencies coordinate better, said V Ravichandar, member of the panel that made the recommendation.

“Like in London, the wards will be able to set up waste processing units locally. If they are not able to set them up, the processing can be outsourced to the neighbouring wards for a fee,” Ravichandar told the debate on the BBMP restructuring organised by Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Opposing the views, Kathyayini Chamaraj, Executive Trustee of Civic Bangalore, said the recommendation –made by the panel headed by former Chief Secretary BS Patil- makes no mention of the social and economic issues.
