The Ramanagara district police have traced the family of the alleged gang-rape victim, who has been undergoing treatment at the Victoria Hospital for the last two months.
A woman in her early twenties was found abandoned in a critical condition near the railway tracks at Harohalli on February 4. Suspected to be a victim of gang-rape, she was in a coma for several days.
Former minister Shobha Karandlaje had taken up her case and had written to the chief minister too. She had even alleged that some relatives of a BJP leader were involved in the case and the home minister was shielding them. Doctors had opined that she was not a victim of sexual assault. The victim is recovering and is in a position to speak now.
Based on the information given by her, cops say she hailed from Davangere. They have traced her family and brought her mother and sister to the City.
Ramanagara DySP Ramalingappa told Deccan Herald that the woman had been making contradictory statements. She had earlier stated that she was married to a man from Mandya and was a mother of two children. She had stated that she and her husband worked as coolies and even alleged that her husband was present when she was attacked.
Her mother claimed she was not married and the doctors have also opined that she had borne no children. The DySP said the victim is so traumatised that she is not able to recollect what happened to her on that night.
