A man, who was taking his family out for dinner in his autorickshaw, died in an accident on the Lingarajpuram flyover on Friday night.

According to Pulikeshi Nagar traffic police, Sham Kumar, 43, an autorickshaw driver and resident of Kushal Nagar in KG Halli, had taken his wife Vimala and 5-year-old daughter Rakhsita to Lingarajpuram for dinner around 12:30 am. Unable to find a restaurant open at that hour, the family travelled to Frazer Town.
Police said the autorickshaw suddenly developed a glitch and halted on the flyover. When Kumar stepped out to check the engine, he was struck by a speeding two-wheeler.
Kumar suffered serious injuries to his head and face, police said and added that the motorcycle rider, with help from the public, rushed him to a private hospital. He was about to be shifted to Bowring Hospital when he died, police said.
The motorcycle rider, who had promised to follow the family to Bowring Hospital, however, fled. Police are on the lookout for the bike rider.
