Cricket lovers in the City took to streets in protest against the involvement of cricketers S Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila in spot fixing.
They burnt effigies of players, held placards and shouted slogans against the three disgraced players of Rajasthan Royals.
“Indian Premier League (IPL) is not cricket. It is another form of gambling,” said Edward John, the president of the Bangalore Cricket Association.
“The angry protesters accused the players of not respecting the game of cricket in true spirit.
“These people don’t realise the importance of the game. All they want is fame and money. Playing for the country is not their aim but filling their pockets is,” said another protestor.
Demanding that the players should be punished, the protesters also appealed to the authorities to look into the matter very seriously.
“During IPL matches, a large number of betting takes place and many people lose their money. These matches should be banned for the better good,” said John. He went on to add that thought should also be given to implementing changes in the national team too.
“All the players need to be taught the importance of the game. Most of them are not cricket lovers and such players should be removed,” he added.
