The Central Crime Branch sleuths arrested a 26-year-old man for befriending a woman on Facebook and cheating her of Rs 5.8 lakh, promising her a job at the Income Tax department.

The suspect Naveen Kumar G alias Kamalakar Naidu is a resident of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. Based on the victim’s complaint on September 24, the cyber crime police initiated a probe and arrested Kumar on October 10.

According to the police, the woman was employed as an inspector at a health club in RT Nagar. The two started communicating after Kumar told the woman he had contacts in government offices and could get her a job in the I-T department. Soon, Kumar started demanding money for the job offer, and the woman transferred Rs 5.8 lakh to different bank accounts on 11 occasions.

When the victim inquired about Kumar at the I-T department, she realised she was taken for a ride, and lodged a complaint. The police traced Kumar’s whereabouts using the bank account details he had given to the woman, and arrested him.
