Fire dept begins rechecking pubs, rooftop restaurants

The fire and emergency services department has started reinspecting the  70 pubs, bars and rooftop restaurants that were served notices for neglecting fire safety.

The department had inspected the establishments in  Indiranagar, Koramangala, JP Nagar, Jayanagar 4th Block and Bannerghatta Road so as to avert tragedies such as the fire in a Mumbai pub that killed 14 people on December 29, 2017.

Many establishments were found to be functioning without having obtained No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the department. All of them had time until January 14 to comply with the fire safety regulations.

On Tuesday,  regional fire officers started reinspecting the establishments to find out whether they had fallen in line. They  will submit a report after inspecting all the establishments this week,  Soumendu Mukherjee, the IGP and additional director of the department, told DH. He added that based on the report, action would be taken against the errant establishments.
