Governor H R Bhardwaj on Sunday appealed to Rotary Club members to focus on educating the masses in  rural India.

Speaking at the launch of Unique service, an initiative by Rotary Club International, District 3190, Bhardwaj said, “The nation is witnessing a sudden spur of private universities, but very few quality institutions are within the reach of the poor. This kind of discriminatory practice will give rise to social disparity and widen the gap between the haves and have nots.”

However, he came down heavily on regional groups emphasing education in the Kannada medium.

“It is highly unrealistic to ask every subject to be taught in Kannada, as for students it is essential that they learn as many languages as possible so that they gain wide exposure. Once a student becomes an adult, he is free to pursue his interest,” the governor said.
