The Parappana Agrahara police on Sunday arrested two men who murdered a home-alone woman and fled with her gold-coated ornaments presuming them to be genuine.

According to the police, the suspects are Ajimon Balan, 24, and Basruddin Mohammad, 45. The two friends are both natives of Kerala and residents of Hebbagodi in the City, said the police. They absconded after strangling Akhilandeshwari at her house on May 29.
Balan met Akhilandeshwari three months ago and they were in a physical relationship since then.

Financial problems
He was facing financial problems and discussed them with Mohammad who was in similar trouble. Balan had noticed some gold ornaments in Akhilandeshwari’s house. They hatched a plan to murder the woman and make away with her ornaments, said the police.

As per the plan, Balan told Akhilandeshwari that he and a friend would come over to her house on May 29 and spend the day with her. They reached her house around 11 am, said the police.

They then attacked Akhilandeshwari. Balan held her down and closed her mouth, while Mohammad held her legs, to prevent her from raising an alarm and strangled her, said the police.

Left with ‘valuables’
They left with four rings and two chains. They locked the door from outside and also took with them all the phones, said the police.

After four days, Krishnappa, the house owner, grew suspicious of the foul smell emanating from the house. He alerted the police, who broke open the door and found the body. A case was registered. The police then summoned Siddayyan, a local resident, who knew the victim. He told the police of a man aged between 25 and 30 years who often visited Akhilandeshwari’s house. Other neighbours told the police that they had spotted two men entering her house on May 29.

Based on leads, the police arrested the two from Hebbagodi. They confessed to the crime, said the police.
