The State government is planning to set up skill enhancement centres in Mysore, Bellary, Hubli and Mangalore, in collaboration with Germany, to help the construction sector, said Labour Minister P T Parameshwar Naik.

Speaking after inaugurating a national-level seminar on ‘Recent Developments in Engineering Managements’, organised by JSS Technical Education Academy’s Industrial Engineering and Management wing, he said that the project to set up such centres would be taken up with the help of the Central government. Such centres are successfully functiong in Bangalore and Gulbarga, he added.

The minister said that the government would soon start a Rs 250-crore project to commission the National Academy of Construction, for training engineering students, construction labourers, contractors and government officers in different areas of construction.

About 25 acres of land has been identified near Doddaballapur for the project, he said.

The State government has decided to introduce multi trade system to facilitate students to opt for two courses simultaneously in two trades, he said.

There is a need for research and experimentations in the field of industry. Engineering students and researchers should focus on carrying out research related to issues of labour safety, health and welfare, he added.

Factory and Boiler Director B S Ramachandra spoke at the event. Oracle India senior director Sunil R, JSSATE founder principal  Prof B T Nijaguna, principal Prof Mrithyunjaya V Latte and IME department chairman Prof D R Swamy were present.
