The students of the MCA department at PESIT recently organised a two-day technical fest called Esperanza-13, which was attended by students from several colleges across the City. The core team put a lot of effort into the fest, which they feel was a big success.

In fact, Mamatha, one of the organisers of the fest, admits that it gave them an opportunity to discover their potential.

“We tried out different things and realised what we are best at. The fest was a good platform to meet people since students from different colleges participated in it. The experience also helped us develop our organisational and leadership skills,” she notes.

She adds that other students also got a chance to discover their skills through the host of events that were conducted. Competitive events like ‘ice breaker’, ‘UNIX scripting’, ‘code mania’, web designing, an IT quiz, a product launch, ‘best
technocrat’, ‘tech collage’, ‘tech dumb charades’, ‘tech treasure hunt’, ‘Counter Strike’, ‘NFS’ and gully cricket were a part of the fest.

“MCA and BCA students from over 25 colleges in and around Bangalore poured into the campus to be a part of this event. The main theme of the fest was ‘Corporate Ladder’ and all the events were conducted around this,” explains Mamatha.

“Ten technical and three non-technical events, along with some fun-filled informal events, were conducted during the fest. The gaming events and IT quiz had the most participation. The treasure hunt and dumb charades were conducted in a unique manner.
This was the first time we had organised ‘UNIX scripting’ and five continuous hours of web designing as part of the fest. ‘Best technocrat’ was also extremely entertaining,” she adds.

The students of Kristu Jayanti College won the overall championship trophy by showcasing extraordinary talent and teamwork.

Rajesh, a volunteer, says that organising the event was a lot of fun.

“In fact, it was more than just having fun — it was a wonderful experience. The stress-management round of ‘best technocrat’ was the most fascinating and fun-filled event I have experienced.

The pranks played on the participants on stage really added an element of fun to the fest and also made things lighter for the participants, some of whom were pretty tense,” he notes.
