A gang of around 20 unidentified men allegedly demolished a house in R T Nagar on Monday afternoon, when the residents were away. They allegedly used a crane to bring it down.

According to Kumaramangalam, a technician by profession and a resident of 4th ‘B’ Cross, R T Nagar in D J Halli police limits, the incident took place some time after he went to work. “I got a call from my neighbour, saying some men were demolishing the house. My wife Maya, a nurse, was at work, while my son was in school. I rushed back home and tried to prevent the demolition,” he said.

“A middle-aged man introduced himself as Nataraj, claimed that he owned the property and showed some documents. He assaulted me and took away all household articles in a truck,” Kumaramangalam claimed.

The family members met Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar, who directed the jurisdictional police to probe the matter.

“We registered a case against Nataraj, based on Kumaramangalam’s complaint. It is a civil dispute and the Commissioner has  ordered us to intervene only if the situation demands it,“said DJ Halli police inspector Parashivamurthy.

Nataraj and Kumaramangalam have been asked to produce documents, but the duo were yet to turn up.
