A 12-year-old girl died on the spot while eight others, including four children, sustained injuries in a car accident on NICE Road at Kumaraswamy Layout on Monday.
According to police, Elavarasi B, was among the nine occupants of the car, who were returning to Mandya after a relative's wedding in the city. The injured are Khushi (3), Sanjeevani (6), Manoj (8), Prashanth (8), Sandhya (24), Madhumathi (56), and Vasanthi (66). The car driver, one of their relatives, Pavan Prasad (30), also sustained injuries. All have been admitted to Sairam Hospital and are said to be out of danger.
The accident occurred at around 11.40 am when the driver was overspeeding on the NICE Road. Driver Prasad, who was also injured, has been booked under IPC 304A (causing accidental death due to rash and negligent driving).
