“Ninety-five per cent of metro commuters say that they will give up their seats for those who need them more! Are you one of them?’’ reads a poster inside the coach of a Metro train.
This is part of the strategy adopted by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to sensitise passengers to give up their seats to those who need them. “Please give up these seats for persons with disabilities, the elderly, women with children or pregnant,’’ reads another poster.
Following complaints from a section of people about packed coaches, BMRCL has pasted these posters in all Metro trains.
“The average commuting time in the Metro is not more than 10-15 minutes. People should not expect seats while these arrangements are made keeping in mind those who need them the most. Although there are repeated announcements to give up their seats, not many follow it,” a BMRCL official said. These posters are displayed so that they catch the attention of everyone. “We want people to voluntarily to give up seats to those in need. If this is done, we do not need a separate coach for women, which has been demanded by some,” he added.
