Bangalore: The State Government has decided to hold the global investors’ meeting in Bangalore, in December this year. The dates for the event are yet to be finalised. Karnataka Udyog Mitra, the nodal agency which is to organise the event, has already floated tenders inviting event managers to organise the meet.
The BJP government, in its first budget in 2008, had proposed to organise the event in January 2009. Minister for Industries Murugesh Nirani visited the UK, US, China, Japan and a few other countries, and held meetings with investors in an attempt to get them to participate in the meet. However, the event was postponed due to the recession.
Now, the government has decided to hold the event in December. Asked why the event has been proposed while the recession is still on, Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani said that the Gujarat government went ahead with the event in January 2009 despite the recession, and garnered investment close to Rs 12 lakh crore. “Our target for this year’s event is Rs 2 lakh crore. The government’s idea is that let us hold the programme, no matter how much investment is attracted,” the minister said.
He said that he, along with Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, will go on a three-day visit to Germany from June 22, to meet investors. Over 100 investors are expected to attend.
