Members of Karnataka Private Schools’ Forum on Thursday accused State government of torturing them by imposing new rules and regulations.

Speaking at a press conference, Forum president N Venkatachalaiah said: “The State government had issued new regulations about three weeks ago. According to that, the managements of the private unaided schools had to deposit Rs 10 lakh in bank, hand over schools to government on lease for 30 years among others.”

The State government should withdraw the regulations as it is burdening the school management, said members who added that private Kannada medium schools were not getting permission to run as English medium schools despite getting clearance from Supreme Court, six months ago. The Forum said that over 4,200 private unaided schools were functioning in the City.

“The Right to Education (RTE) Act should be extended to even minority schools. We will be discussing all these issues               during the upcoming conference, scheduled to be held at Shikshakara Sadana on November 29. We are also planning to hold protests in the coming days if government does not withdraw its new rules,” Venkatachalaiah said.
