The High Court on Tuesday disposed of a petition seeking appointment of chairman and members to the Karnataka State Consumer Redressal Forum, after the State government submitted that it will redo the entire list of appointments.

Hearing two separate public interest litigations, including the one by students of the National Law School Of India University, the division bench comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice B V Nagarathna disposed of the matter after Advocate General Ravivarma Kumar sought more time to redo the entire list. The court granted time till June 30.

Commissioner summoned

The High Court has directed the Commissioner for the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to appear before the Court on May 6.

The court was hearing a petition by Karnataka Regional Commission for Education and Karnataka State Minorities Educational Institutions Managements Federation. The petitioners had contended that it is the prerogative of the management of a school to appoint its own teaching and non-teaching staff as per Section 46 of the Karnataka Education Act, 1983.

The High Court had directed the State government to file objections to the petition challenging the appointment of 1,668 technical education staff as second division assistants in aided schools after the job-oriented courses were discontinued. When the Court directed the Commissioner to file objections, the officials did not respond.
