Bengaluru: Grammy-winning music director Ricky Kej was allegedly robbed at his residence in Bengaluru on Thursday evening, with CCTV footage suggesting the involvement of a food delivery executive. But, he did not lodge a formal police complaint despite Indiranagar police waiting outside his residence for over four hours on Saturday, following his social media post alleging theft by a food delivery executive.

Police sources said personnel visited Kej’s residence in Indiranagar after noticing his post on X, in which he claimed that a delivery executive had trespassed into his house and had stolen a sump cover. However, Kej did not come forward to record a complaint. His family members, including mother also allegedly did not co-operate when police repeatedly requested that a formal complaint be filed.

Sources said police discussed the possibility of registering a suo motu case and consulted senior officers. However, they were advised that in court proceedings, the complainant’s presence would be mandatory, and in the absence of cooperation, police officials could face complications during trial. As a result, police waited for Kej to either step out or visit the police station to lodge a complaint, which did not happen.

Kej’s social media post alleged that the incident occurred around 6 pm on Thursday. He claimed that a man, suspected to be a Zomato delivery executive, entered his premises and stole a sump cover. Kej alleged that the suspect had visited the house about 15 minutes earlier, possibly to survey the area, before returning to commit the theft.

Kej said the entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras from two angles. Screenshots of the suspect’s face and the vehicle used — a red Honda Activa — were secured from the footage.

Seeking help, Kej tagged Zomato and Bengaluru City Police on social media, urging them to identify the suspect and take action. He also warned residents to remain vigilant, stating that such incidents could happen to anyone.

Meanwhile, Zomato responded on social media, stating that appropriate action would be taken against the delivery executive after an internal investigation.
