 ‘Yugapurusha-Mahatmara Mahatma,’ a play depicting the relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his spiritual mentor Shrimad Rajchandra was premiered in Kannada on Tuesday.

The play, enacted by a team of 21 artistes from Bengaluru, portrays the special bond between Shrimad Rajchandra, a Jain poet, and Mahatma Gandhi. It depicts how the Father of the Nation got catapulted from ‘Mohandas’ to ‘Mahatma’ by adopting Rajchandra's ideals.

Directed by Rajesh Joshi, the play ‘Yugpurush - Mahatma Ke Mahatma’ originally in Gujarati, has been translated into Kannada by Krishna Hebbale. The play has seen more than 250 shows across 80 cities in various languages.

Smitha Mehta, the Bengaluru head of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission, Dharampur, said that they plan to stage the Kannada version of the play across state. She said that the Karnataka government was supporting their project.

Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj HK Patil, Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad watched the premier show which lasted for more than an hour.
