Family members of a man, who died of H1N1, staged a protest in front of Koshys Hospital at Ramurthy Nagar on Wednesday claiming that the hospital had tried to fleece them in the name of treatment even after the patient had died.

However, according to the hospital doctors, Nagaraj, 45, had died on the way to Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Chest Diseases to where he was refered from the hospital. “He was admitted on February 5. Based on the symptoms, we suspected either tuberculosis or H1N1. He also had bilateral pneumonia. Swine flu tests were positive and his condition was serious,” said Dr Mukesh, consultant physician, Koshys Hospital.

He also said: “Had the patient died at our hospital, 108 ambulance would not have taken him to another hospital as the ambulance does not help shuttle the dead. The patient was declared brought dead at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases. He must have died en route and the family was informed well in advance that his condition was critical.”
