A 37-year-old hairdresser has been arrested by the city police for sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl staying in the neighbourhood in Basaveshwaranagar on Friday.
Bhaskar, a resident of Kamalanagar, ran a salon in front of the victim's parents' garment shop, the police said.
According to the police, around 11 am on Friday, Bhaskar called the girl to his salon, saying he would show her a programme on television. After she went inside his salon, he offered her chocolates and touched her inappropriately. The girl, who became uncomfortable, rushed outside the salon and complained to her parents about Bhaskar's behaviour.
The girl's parents questioned Bhaskar, following which they rushed to the police station and lodged a complaint.
The Basaveshwaranagar police swung into action and arrested Bhaskar the same day, and booked him under several sections of the POCSO Act. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigations are under way.
