A Haj tour operator from southern Bengaluru’s Jayanagar has allegedly fled with Rs 3 crore deposited by 100 prospective pilgrims and their passports.

The operator closed down his office and the mobile phones of his staff are switched off, the pilgrims told the police. The victims approached the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, T Suneel Kumar, on Saturday and submitted a petition seeking action against the operator.

The operator took around Rs 3 lakh from each Haj pilgrim for a 40-day tour package. He offered discounts and did door-to-door canvassing. A large number of prospective pilgrims thronged his office to book the tour.

The police commissioner has forwarded the petition to DCP (Southeast) Boralingiah who has instructed the jurisdictional Tilak Nagar police station to investigate the matter.
