The Karnataka State Haj Committee selected Haj pilgrims by ‘Qurrah’ (draw of lots) at the Vidhana Soudha on Saturday. The names of the selected applicants are updated online.

This year, Karnataka was alloted 6,774 seats. As per the state-wise distribution of quota for Haj pilgrims, initially 5,566 seats were alloted to Karnataka. However, since the number of applicants in Assam, Bihar, Tripura, West Bengal and Orissa were fewer than the number allotted, the surplus was redistributed to other states and Karnataka received an additional 1,208 seats.

The Karnataka State Haj Committee received 15,521 applications and rejected 296 on the grounds of incomplete documents and repetition and five had withdrawn the application, said a press statement from the Committee. The process is controlled by Haj Committee of India, Mumbai.

Selection of the pilgrims was made in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary C S Suranjana.
