Harassed for dowry, woman ends life

The victim Chaitra (28), a native of Chaukalli village in Bidadi, Ramanagara district, was married to Umesh Babu, a finance company employee in Manjunathnagar, four years ago.
The couple lived at Kempe Gowda Layout. In a complaint, Chaitra’s parents alleged that Umesh harassed their daughter often for dowry. The couple had no children.

In another incident at Banaswadi, a homemaker was shifted to a private hospital after she consumed a toilet cleaning liquid, allegedly due to the severe torture by her husband. The victim Sheeba (30), a resident of Kammanahalli, is struggling for life.

According to police, she was married to Joseph Anand Raj from Andhra Pradesh nine years ago. Raj, who is into real estate business, allegedly tortured Sheeba physically and mentally and sought a divorce from her. Sheeba’s relatives told police that Raj forced her to consume poison. Raj is absconding.

Girl killed

Speeding vehicles claimed a life and seriously injured another in two separate incidents in the City on Sunday.

 Manjamma (12) was killed on the spot when a truck knocked her down on Aralur Road in Madivala on Sunday. Police said the accident occurred while the victim was crossing the road. Manjamma had come to City from Bellary with her parents in search of a job.
