'Harassed' housewife ends life

A 25-year-old housewife committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house at DRDO quarters in C V Raman Nagar on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Rekha, a native of Tumakuru.

According to the police, the victim had married Vishwanath, a cook at a Defence establishment in Domlur. They were residing in one of their relatives’ house in DRDO quarters.

On Thursday morning, when everyone left for work, she hanged herself from the ceiling. The incident came to light when Vishwanath returned home in the evening and found her hanging.

The parents of Rekha have lodged a complaint against Vishwanath with the Byappanahalli police alleging that Vishwanath and his parents used to harass their daughter for dowry.

The complainants alleged that their daughter took the extreme step as she could not bear the harassment, the police said.

Based on the complaint, the police have detained Vishwanath for questioning, said the police. Byappanahalli police have registered a case and investigations are on.
