Karnataka State Vokkaliga Sangha president Dr Appaji Gowda on Wednesday refuted allegations that he had misused Rs 13.8 crore of the Sangha’s funds.

Gowda said vested interests in the Sangha were spreading false rumours about the organisation’s funds “missing” from the bank accounts. He produced the account transactions to prove that the charges against him were false. Sangha’s executive committee member K Mallaiah had alleged that Rs 13.8 crore was “missing” from the bank accounts. Gowda said the allegations, which were far from truth, had been made to malign him.

He said that as a president, he had been honestly trying to bring in transparency in the Sangha. “I have been relentlessly working to improve the finances, provide able administration, and improve health facilities at the medical college and so on. As we have been able to achieve various milestones, vested interests have become jealous and are resorting to cheap tactics,” he said.

Gowda said the Sangha was registered under the Inspector General of Registration and Commissioner of Stamps, and if anyone had an issue, they were free to fight it out legally.
He said Mallaiah would be removed as a primary member of the Sangha. Besides, a defamation suit would be filed against him for making baseless allegations, he said.
