HC asks govt to shift Ambedkar statue

The Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the State government to shift the Ambedkar statue immediately. The statue will be shifted to another location within the premises of Vidhana Soudha.

The location will be chosen by Dalit organizations which have fiercely opposed the move to shift it. A division bench headed by acting Chief Justice K Shreedhar Rao also directed the State government to move the statue back to its original position after the ongoing metro work in the area around the statue is completed.

The directions of the High Court came following submissions made by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd saying that the tunnel boring work around the statue will be completed in six weeks. In an earlier decision, the High Court had directed the State government to shift the statue but the State government had not complied with the order after several Dalit organizations had protested against the shifting of the statue.
