The High Court of Karnataka has declined to stay the impugned circulars passed by the BMRCL management committee on forming a staff council to address the grievances of its employees.

Hearing a petition by the BMRCL Employees’ Union against the formation of the council, the court passed an interim order stating that if the council is constituted as proposed, it must not affect the right of the petitioner and negotiations entered with the council should not be implemented without further orders from the court.

The petitioner submitted that the BMRCL, instead of recognising the union which has over 900 employees as its members, had sought to form a staff council that will deal with limited issues pertaining to their welfare and service-related matters.
