The Urban Development Department has written to the managing director of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), seeking information about the language policy in other Metro corporations.

This comes days after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he had instructed the officials to check the practice followed by Kolkata, Kochi, Delhi and Chennai metros in the use of languages in signage and announcement.

Notably, the department’s letter to BMRCL mentions only Kochi and Chennai metros. “You have been hereby directed to submit a report on (the) language policy and practices followed in metro rail corporations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu,” says the letter signed by K M Hidayattullah, Deputy Secretary, Urban Development Department.
