A member of the All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) State Committee, Veeresh, said the government had recently decided to fill up posts of cooks, assistant cooks, watchmen, attenders and teachers through direct recruitment, leaving in lurch those working on contract basis for the past 20 years.
“Instead of the recruitment, the government should regularise the service of contract employees. Outsourcing of jobs should be done away with as the agencies providing manpower don’t pay minimum wages fixed by the government,” he said. Many of the employees are even unaware of their entitlement to provident fund benefit. The protesters demanded that salary be credited to their bank account directly and they be provided job during the two-month vacation for the students.
Appointment of wardens
The vacant posts of wardens in the hostels run by the Social Welfare Department will be filled up within a month, said Minister for the Social Welfare and Prisons C Narayanaswamy.
He told reporters in Davangere on Tuesday that biometric attendance introduced in the hostels has helped to check irregularities. He said the present additional food expense of Rs 200 for students of Backward Classes category-I will be revised.
