Hostel for visually impaired women inaugurated

Mitra Jyothi charitable trust, in association with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, inaugurated a hostel for the blind women, on Hosur Main Road, on Tuesday.

The hostel, which can accommodate 50 women, will provide need-based training for the women with disabilities at nominal charges.

Speaking at the inauguration, Madhu Singhal, the trust founder, said the initiative aims to meet the needs of the working women - those who come to the city in search of job and those pursuing higher education.

“The initiative is a significant step to encourage visually challenged women and help them lead a dignified and independent life,” Madhu explained.

Mitra Jyothi helps visually and physically challenged women grow self-reliant by teaching vocational skills like weaving, cooking skills and mobility training.

Braille press
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, had set up Braille press on the Mitra Jyothi premises, to cater to the needs of the visually impaired mainly students.
