Residents of Shamanna Garden near the level crossing in Vijayanagar, who were affected by heavy rain, will be given homes at a reduced cost by Karnataka Housing Board, according to Bengaluru Development Minister K J George.

The decision was taken after George, Mayor G Padmavathi and BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad inspected Govindarajnagar and Vijayanagar on Thursday.

Apart from this, under the special grants of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Rs 36.5 crore will be released for the development of Chennappa Industrial Area near Kamakshipalya in Govindarajnagar.

“The minister has ordered building footpaths and shoulder drains for the rainwater to flow. This will benefit people here,” said a senior BBMP official.

Apart from this, Vijayanagar is set to receive Rs 30 crore for the construction of a stormwater drain (SWD) near Shamanna Garden level crossing where residents had faced waterlogging after the rain. “The sewage water had caused flooding here due to a gap in the retaining wall of the SWD. Now, it will be fixed immediately,” said the officer.
