A human skull was found on the Jnanabharathi campus on Thursday morning.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Balraj, attached to Jnanabharathi Police, said: “A few people on the campus saw a stray dog biting a human skull. Soon, the people alerted the police. They chased the dog away and collected the skull. The police, who arrived at the spot, combed the forest area. The place where the skull was found is near the PG hostel for boys en route to the residence of the vice-chancellor on the campus.

During the search operation, the police found a rope hanging from a tree nearby, suggesting that the skull may belong to a man who may have hanged himself from the tree. The man might have committed suicide, at least a month ago, the police said.

“The body may have fallen down and stray dogs in the forest might have eaten away the flesh,” Balraj said.

The Jnanabharathi Police have registered a case of unnatural death. The police have sent the remains of the skull to forensic lab.
