Sandalwood actor Sriimurali has always signed only one project at a time. He likes immersing himself entirely into the project he has signed and even changes his look for each film. And this is exactly what he has done in his latest project Rathaavara.

The first look of the movie which was out on his birthday, shows him in a macho look with a beard and moustache. Though the actor doesn’t

reveal much about his role, he is excited about his new look. “When I was approached by the director for the movie, I was touched by the script. The script of every movie has to touch me first before I agree to do it,” he says. He smiles and says that for this film, all that the director wanted was for him to look like a 25-year-old.

Sriimurali says that filmmakers are sometimes hesitant to ask a hero to change his look. “I took the request positively and just told the director that I will need some time to work on it. But nobody believed that I could get this changeover in a little timeframe.” He took about two months to prepare for his look. “I was supposed to get into the right shape and have tried to do just that,” he says.

He explains that the workout regimen was a tough one. “I had to fight many temptations. I love eating; I’m a foodie. I love indulging in good and tasty food. But for the script, I swapped to a high protein and vegetable diet minus carbohydrates and rice,” says Sriimurali. He says that when people offer him something rich in calories, he reasons with himself. “I tell myself that I cannot eat it even when people try to lure me into it.”

It was difficult to prepare for his look too. “It was my idea to grow a beard. I like to experiment with my looks. I get bored of seeing the same Sriimurali in the mirror everyday. Even if I am not shooting, I try to change my look every two to three weeks,” he says. He vouches that this has helped him finalise looks for different projects.

“Everyone at home is just amused with the beard, be it my mother, wife or even daughter. If I don’t give her something she wants, she just comes and expresses her disapproval by pulling my beard.”

Sriimurali, who plays Ratha in the movie, says that “the performance has more intensity and the character is very mature. The movie revolves around the concept of sacrifice and to what extent any person can go.”
