As many as 11 hoardings belonging to Westminster Advertising agencies were removed at the Brigade Road and the Residency Road junction. Six Palike teams were pressed into action to remove the hoardings.
This has put an end to billboards menace on the Brigade Road which has been slated under the “no-hoardings” zone as per the Advertising rules and regulations of BBMP.
Over the past three years, BBMP had been fighting a case in the High Court over the illegal hoardings in Group A zone which was finally resolved two days ago. The hoardings, 10 (15 x 30) and 1 (15 X 30) placed atop buildings were removed.
In its release, the BBMP has stated that the billboards had been put up illegally for three years, causing a loss of Rs 21 lakh to the Palike. In order to avoid recurrence of such incidents, BBMP has decided to file a caviat at the High Court.
Illegal hoardings have been the bone of contention at the Council sessions since the new corporators were elected earlier this year. The BBMP Council had discussed illegal hoardings at length in a meeting two months ago. Subsequently, an “arduous” conducted a survey conducted by the Palike “revealed” that there were only 108 illegal hoardings in the City’s seven urban zones, except Dasarahalli.
The Palike is continuing its drive to remove illegal advertising boards in the Mahadevpura zone over the past three days.
