Bengaluru: Bengaluru has gone filthy with piling garbage and debris due to lack of management, Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said in a post on X.

She said that the problem is a combination of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s incompetence and lack of civic sense.

“Citizens must cooperate by not dumping garbage and creating ugly dark spots. Pourakarmikas need to be given better equipment and training to keep our city clean. Zonal commissioners need to take ownership of SWM,” the post said.

But marshals on the ground blamed lack of cooperation from citizens as the reason for blackspots.

"Pourakarmikas clean up the city every morning. We do take measures to clear debris also. However, rampant dumping of garbage by citizens is the problem,” one marshals said.

Citizens throwing garbage bags on the move is the bigger problem since it would be challenging to trace and warn them, the official said, adding that they have penalised several citizens who were caught dumping debris on the roadside.
