Titled 'India-Japan Science Technology Innovation Forum', the conference brought together thought leaders, industry experts and innovators from both countries.

The aim is to explore how intensified collaborations between the countries in science and technology can help address global challenges and build a resilient future. The conference is organised in collaboration with Keio University, Japan.

Ambassador Raj Kumar Srivastava shared insights on the strengthening relations between India and Japan, especially in the field of AI and Deep Tech — including collaborative AI research between Indian institutes and Japanese labs, quantum computing partnerships and semiconductor supply chain dialogues.

He added that momentum was needed in establishing an India-Japan corridor and moving from bilateral projects to multilateral leadership.

Srivastava told DH that it was important for India to pick up the attitude of self-reliance and problem-solving from Japanese culture.

'Jugaad'

"The Indian word 'jugaad' even made it to the Harvard Business School, but it is time we move beyond that mindset. 'Jugaad' is good for survival, but it is not good for sustainability. We need to focus on problem solving and finding solutions. With our startup culture thriving, we are finally moving in that direction," he said.

The conference saw three panel discussions on the inaugural day, on Thursday — ‘Enabling Technologies and Sectors’, ‘Economic Partnership to Shape Strategic Growth’, and ‘Codesigning a Sustainable Future’.

Masafumi Senda, country head of New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation, shared insights on how biogas can be used to replace CNG vehicles in the country, among other sustainable solutions.

A discussion on ‘Skilling for Resilience and Innovation’ was held on Friday.
