A 21-year-old undertrial was beaten to death by four inmates at the Bangalore Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesha, a native of Tumakuru. He was lodged in the jail in January. He had cases of robbery and molestation against him at the Vidyaranyapura police station in the City. He was attacked by fellow inmates Sathish, Prabhu, Prashanth and Bharath.

Around 9:30 am, Ganesha and four other inmates were cleaning Tower 2 where a Ganesha idol was kept for puja. They started arguing about who will tie the mango leaves and decorate the door.

They had a heated argument  which took a nasty turn when they exchanged blows. Ganesha was overpowered by the four who thrashed him. Ganesha collapsed on the ground, the other prisoners and guards who heard the commotion rushed to the spot and shifted him to the prison hospital.

They were asked to shift him to Victoria hospital, where he was declared brought dead. He suffered internal bleeding and died of heart attack, said the police.
