She has introduced the very popular camera print sarees, jackets and short dresses, which a lot of leading ladies in Bollywood are sporting these days. In fact, it is not just the celebrities, but the fashion conscious youth also who are seen donning her outfits.
Even as many dream of getting that trademark Masaba Gupta outfit, the young designer tempts her fans with the latest collection at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle Autumn/Winter 2013-14 organised by the Fashion Design Council of India.
Masaba, Neena Gupta’s daughter and creative director for Satya Paul, showcased a brilliant collection of maxis, crop tops, saris and gowns printed with digital designs of lipsticks, dripping ink, colourblock abstracts and telephone booth series. Grey and neon colours, which give a simple yet chic look, dominate her collection.
Pairing an ink blot black and grey saree with neon orange tie up blouse or a black and white abstract saree with white embellished blouse, made them stand out from the works of other designers. As Laxmi Rana sashayed down the ramp in the grey telephone booth saree which had a multi-colour border, the expressions on the faces of fashionistas like Mandira Bedi, Feroze Gujral and Shehnaz Husain indicated approval and interest while mommy Neena looked on proudly.
Designer Anupama Dayal’s ‘Ishq-e-Dilli’ was inspired from the rich Islamic and Mughal designs which are present throughout the Capital – be it in architecture, fabric or even lifestyles. So her silhouettes included sharara inspired trousers, lehenga inspired skirts and angarkhas.
Designer Kanika Saluja’s ‘Fatal Vanity’ collection found its muse in Satan and his influence. Though she remained loyal to her original favourite - metal, this time she also experimented with a bit of leather and velvet.
Vineet Bahl’s ‘Awadh’ collection presented beautiful and intricate haute couture in chikankari. Outfits in black and ivory with detailed sheesha and gota work highlighted the delicate contours of the outfits while adding understated glamour overall. Hand block printing and traditional zardozi motifs were combined with vivid colours to create an unusual look.
How could the week be complete without its Bollywood quotient. Preity Zinta walked the ramp for Sureily Goel, whose outfits ranged from straight lines to jumpsuits and played with a rich palette of emerald green, burgundy and navy blue. She used her trademark touch – shine for that elegant and glamorous look.
The day ended with Namrata Joshipura’s ‘Wings of Desires’. Leather and embellishments remained an important element in her entire collection. To create an unusual effect, embroideries and trimmed leather was used everywhere.
