Intermittent rains lash several dists

With rains receding in the catchments of River Krishna and its tributaries in Maharashtra and in Karnataka, the water levels in the rivers in Belagavi district have also receded.

The bridges and roads which had submerged in the river water are now open for traffic. The low-lying bridge between Kallol-Yadur in Chikkodi taluk which had remained submerged for the last two weeks opened for traffic on Tuesday.

Water inflow from Maharashtra into River Krishna further reduced to 41,344 cusecs on Tuesday. Inflow from the Rajapur barrage in Maharashtra into River Krishna was about 36,000 cusecs and from River Doodhganga was about 5,000 cusecs.

While Belagavi city received an occasional drizzle, the skies were overcast in the rest of the district. Dakshina Kannada district experienced drizzle on Tuesday, while the region received rain throughout Monday night.

In the last 24 hours, the district received an average of 26.4 mm of rainfall, which includes 48.7 mm in Belthangady and 27.4 mm in Mangaluru taluk. Kodagu district received an average of 20.03 mm of rainfall.

The water -level in Harangi reservoir stood at 2,858.13 feet. The inflow of water was 7,643 cusecs while 4,308 cusecs of water was released into the river. Intermittent rains continued to lash a few parts of Shivamogga. Thirthahalli, Bhadravathi, Hosanagar and Sagar received intermittent rainfall.

The water-level in the Linganamakki dam rose to 1,790.05 feet against the maximum level of 1,819 feet as catchment area received 32.6 mm of rainfall. The inflow of water was 9,123 cusecs.
