"Though I have given up my fast, I have not given up my dedication towards my people," said human rights activist Irom Sharmila while addressing a gathering of students here on Friday.

The Iron Lady was in the city to inaugurate the 'Human Rights Celebration 2017' organised by St Joseph's College in collaboration with South India Cell For Human Rights Education and Monitoring (SICHREM) and Indian Social Institute.

Irom, the Iron Lady from Manipur, recalled the support extended to her by the students during her hunger strike. She spoke about her struggles and the difficulties she continue to face in her fight for human rights.

Irom encouraged the students to be human beings first and then take up the issue of human rights.
