Cloudy days are here to stay with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting light to moderate rainfall for the next three days in Bengaluru.

S M Maitri, in-charge director, IMD, said that depression over northern Tamil Nadu had moved westwards. This weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area and lay over interior Tamil Nadu.

“The depression has weakened further, leading to a drop in temperature and rainfall in certain parts of Karnataka and other states. Cloudy sky with light showers are expected to continue for the next three days in Bengaluru,” he told DH.

The city received 5.2 mm of rainfall from 8.30 am on Thursday to 8.30 am on Friday. The HAL airport received 3.2 mm of rainfall and the Kempegowda International Airport 1.2 mm.

Rainfall in November this year was lower than in the corresponding month last year. “The city had received 227 mm of rainfall in 2015 and this year, it was just 13 mm,” IMD officials said, adding that December was expected to get normal showers.

While there were not many rain-related complaints, a tree branch at Malleswaram 18th Cross, near Kendriya Vidyalaya, got uprooted on Friday. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) control room at the head office said workers were sent immediately to clear the branch.

According to the Met department, the city recorded 2 mm rainfall up to 8.30 pm on Friday and 2.6 mm at HAL airport.
