Known for its authentic North Karnataka flavour, all the rotti items and sweets have their own takers. Started as a small scale industry in 2002 by a retired couple Suresh Kalaghatagi and Nalini, the store won the respect of its customers very soon.

Nalini, a home science graduate, was instrumental in giving a new dimension to these food items.

“I keep on experimenting to improve the quality of rottis and various curries. We have introduced methi chapathi, which is good for health as well as can be stored for a day unlike other rottis. All the products are prepared at home without any soda, artificial colours or cheap oils. I ensure the quality of the food by tasting it everyday,” she
explains.

“Most of our customers are regulars and have not encountered any health problem so far. We provide quality food at a reasonable rate. I keep on visiting other hotels to see whether there is any scope for improvement," says an enthusiastic Suresh.

Earlier, they were restricted to rottis, chapathis and curries. Now along with these, they have also started serving rice items, authentic North Karnataka sweets like shenga holige, bele holige, godhi unde, antinunde, besan ladu, and chutney powders.

One must try the combination of jolada rotti along with brinjal curry here.

You can also savour the chapathi, akki rotti, ragi rotti and aloo paratha with channa masala, sprout masala, palak dal, mixed veg curry and ranjaka (a chutney made out of red chillies). The menu changes everyday.

“As it is a take away store, many of our customers prefer to take home jolada rotti, akki rotti and chapathis along with different curries. We struggle hard to serve them during evening hours. The shop witnesses a heavy crowd during the weekends and people don’t mind waiting for ten to 15 minutes," says Manjunath, who looks after the shop.

“I have tasted North Karnataka food at various shops but was unable to find the authentic flavour in any of those. The curries over here are very tasty,” says Mohan, a regular customer.

The shop witnesses brisk business during festivals and during Ganesh Chaturthi this year, more than 1,000 holiges were sold.

The shop is open from 10.30 am to 3 pm and 6 pm to 10 pm. It’s closed on Wednesdays.
