The Japanese Consulate in Bangalore on Thursday presented a commendation award to Shymala Ganesh, a Bangalore resident and patron of Japanese culture for her contribution to promoting cultural exchanges between India and Japan.
The commendation ceremony was organised under the aegis of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Speaking at the ceremony Nobauki Yamamoto, Head of the Consulate of Japan in Bangalore said: “Shyamala has dedicated 40 years of her life in promoting cultural exchanges between the countries and it is an honour conferring this award on her.”
Shyamala reminisced about the past from taking the first flight to Tokyo in 1979 with her husband and to starting the Japanese Language School in 1984, the first such formal school in Bangalore. “India and Japan share a strong bond that is visibly rich. And this relation is only likely to grow further,” she said.
