The Union government has reconstituted the Karnataka Coastal Zone Management Authority that would oversee development work along the coast for the next three years.

Besides officials and academicians, the 15-member panel has M Dinesh Nayak, president of Vittal-based Sasyashyamala, an NGO in Dakshina Kannada, as one of its members. Headed by the additional chief secretary in Karnataka's forest, ecology and environment department, it has senior officials from tourism, industry, fisheries, geology and space departments.

The new panel comes at a time when the Union government is in the process of modifying the coastal zone regulation rules based on the report of an expert panel.
