Bengaluru: Karnataka has announced a 50% rebate on pending traffic and transport fines.
The rebate — valid from November 21 to December 12 — applies to all traffic e-challans and RTO cases filed between 1991-92 and 2019-20.
This is the fifth time the state government has offered such a rebate on traffic challans to encourage more vehicle owners to clear their dues. Thousands of vehicle owners have already paid up pending fines, contributing crores of rupees in revenue.
Traffic fines can be paid on the Karnataka State Police (KSP) app, the Bengaluru Traffic Police's (BTP) ASTraM app, at the nearest traffic police station or the Traffic Management Centre or via the KarnatakaOne and BangaloreOne websites.
Yogeesh AM, Commissioner for Transport and Road Safety, said fines related to his department must be paid at the RTOs.
"We don't issue e-challans, so there's no online payment system," he told DH.
The department estimates Rs 52 crore in pending RTO fines up to March 2020. "With the 50% rebate, we expect to collect Rs 25 crore if all dues are cleared," he added.
