L Hanumanthaiah, the newly appointed chairman of Kannada Development Authority (KDA), on Wednesday said that he was keen to start a centre for study of classical Kannada language in Bengaluru.
Speaking to reporters after assuming office in Vidhana Soudha, Hanumanthaiah said that the KDA is prepared to fight the case filed in the Madras High Court, questioning the classical language status to Kannada.
The KDA chairperson’s office will continue to function from room number 338 on the third floor of Vidhana Soudha. All chairpersons of KDA, including the first - the present chief minister Siddaramaiah (in 1984) - have functioned from this room.
But the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms recently allotted the room to former minister M C Nanaiah, who heads a legislature committee on safety of women and children, following a proposal that KDA chairperson’s office can be shifted to Kannada Bhavan on JC Road. Hanumanthaiah expressed his wish that he would like to function from the Vidhana Soudha and the room was allotted back to the KDA, official sources said.
