The Karnataka Unaided Schools Management Association (KUSMA) has expressed shock at the Centre for its consideration of a proposal to prohibit the sale of text books and uniforms within school grounds.

The prohibition is part of additional draft rules under the RTE Act. In a press release, KUSMA said that the Kothari Commission (1964-66), had made it legal for schools to sell text books and uniforms through student co-operative societies.

KUSMA asked that the Kothari report be considered when the Central Advisory Committee makes its draft recommendation to the Centre.
